Radon Mitigation - Basement Waterproofing System Causes Elevated Radon

A homebuyer in Athens, GA, called Georgia Radon Defense to provide a quote for mitigating a home she was purchasing after the radon test showed radon levels of 7.0 pCI/L in the basement. 

When we did our initial inspection, we observed a very well-installed basement waterproofing system. We were impressed with how well it was installed and all of the backup features, however, these systems are often the source of elevated radon. The system is designed to let water drain easily into a sump pit but it also allows soil gas from below the slab to easily seep into the home.

We provided an estimate and, after closing, we were able to reduce the radon levels to below 1.0 pCi/L.
