Doug B. called Georgia Healthy Homes to install a mitigation system in his ranch home in Covington, GA. Doug initially tested his home because he has a basement apartment and thought he should to make sure the occupants were living in a healthy environment. The radon in air test results showed 20.0 pCi/L in his home. A follow-up test came in at 19 pCi/L.

We always do a site visit, a structural inspection, and ask a lot of questions before we provide any of our indoor air quality solutions. During our conversation, we learned that the home was on a drilled well. There were two other homes on the family property and neither of them had tested high. We suggested that Doug have the home's water tested for radon before we proceeded with a mitigation system.

Doug tested the water using a University of Georgia Extension laboratory. The results were shocking. The radon level in his water was 145,000 pCi/L. This previous record in Georgia was 140,000 pCi/L. 

Radon in water will contribute 1 pCi/L of radon in the air for every 10,000 pCi/L of water coming from a well. We still believe that Doug will need a radon mitigation system but first, the water must be addressed.
