Winston M. called Georgia Healthy Homes after running several long-term radon tests in the basement of his Covington, GA home. The basement was finished and had his home office and a home gym. They all spent a lot of time down there.

We offered an exterior aesthetic package to Winston but he thought the trees would hide it well enough and he was right.

Radon Mitigation in Covington, GA 30014
  1. Why they needed a radon mitigation system:
The homeowners discovered elevated radon levels of 6.4 pCi/L during a pre-listing inspection. With plans to sell their home in Covington, GA, it was essential to address the issue to ensure the property met safety standards and passed inspections for potential buyers.

  2. Why the customer chose the company:
The customer’s agent found us online and contacted us for a quick solution. After reviewing our reputation and the fast response time we offered, they decided to trust us with the radon mitigation process.

  3. What's causing the problem:
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that seeps into homes through the foundation, especially in areas like finished basements. In this case, the elevated radon levels were likely due to the soil composition beneath the home, allowing the gas to accumulate and seep inside.

  4. How We Fixed the Problem (Mitigation Process):

    • Provided a fast quote and timeline for installation.
    • Installed a strategic exterior base pipe to draw radon gas out from under the home.
    • Installed a radon fan to expel the gas outside, ensuring proper ventilation.
    • Monitored the system using a manometer to confirm it was operating effectively.
    • Reduced the radon levels from 6.4 pCi/L to a safe 1.2 pCi/L in under a week.
  5. What's unique about this situation:
The job was urgent because the homeowners were preparing to list the property for sale. Our ability to complete the radon mitigation quickly and efficiently, while adhering to a tight timeline, helped ensure the home was ready for market in time to meet the seller’s goals.

Crawlspace Mitigation in Covington, GA

Tammi contacted Georgia Radon Defense shortly after moving into her recently purchased house, where a radon test during the home inspection revealed at 5.8 pCi/L. Upon discussion with the homeowner, our skilled estimator, Craig, assessed that implementing an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) would be the optimal solution to mitigate the crawlspace in the home.

Subsequently, our experienced installer, Trent, successfully installed the ERV, effectively reducing the radon levels to 0.4 pCi/L.

Doug B. called Georgia Radon Defense to install a mitigation system in his ranch home in Covington, GA. Doug initially tested his home because he has a basement apartment and thought he should to make sure the occupants were living in a healthy environment. The radon in air test results showed 20.0 pCi/L in his home. A follow-up test came in at 19 pCi/L.

We always do a site visit, a structural inspection, and ask a lot of questions before we provide any of our indoor air quality solutions. During our conversation, we learned that the home was on a drilled well. There were two other homes on the family property and neither of them had tested high. We suggested that Doug have the home's water tested for radon before we proceeded with a mitigation system.

Doug tested the water using a University of Georgia Extension laboratory. The results were shocking. The radon level in his water was 145,000 pCi/L. This previous record in Georgia was 140,000 pCi/L.

Radon in water will contribute 1 pCi/L of radon in the air for every 10,000 pCi/L of water coming from a well. We still believe that Doug will need a radon mitigation system but first, the water must be addressed.

Before you have a radon mitigation system installed, make sure your home has been completely assessed and you are getting the right solution to meet your indoor air quality goals. Call us today!
