Extreme Radon Reduction in Hull
Challenge
A homeowner with young family members living in a finished basement had contracted with us to install a mitigation system in 2025. While the system was successful at reducing average radon levels below the EPA action threshold of 4 pCi/L, the homeowner would notice occasional spikes around that threshold and wanted to achieve an even greater risk reduction for his family. Testing in different areas of the finished basement living space produced a bit of a mystery, showing levels that ranged from 1.81 in one corner to 4.08 in another.
Solution
After a bit of sleuthing, our team discovered the culprit: an adjacent unfinished storage area where the levels were spiking to 41 pCi/L!
Georgia Radon Defense installed a second extraction point in the storage area, conferring with the homeowner to run the pipe in his preferred location through the ceiling to accommodate future renovation plans. After the work was completed, the homeowner was thrilled to report the lowest radon levels he had ever seen, around 1.6 pCi/L!
