Energy Recovery Ventilator in Alpharetta
Challenge
When radon levels are elevated, there are several things that can be done to lower levels and lower health risks. The first line of defense is a traditional mitigation system that pulls radon out from beneath the home's foundation before it enters the living space. Another solution that can work with a mitigation system or potentially on its own is to dilute radon and other indoor pollutants by introducing lots of fresh air into the home. In this case, the homeowner opted for the second approach.
Solution
An Energy Recovery Ventilator, or ERV, introduces fresh air from outside the home while exhausting stale indoor air outside. It connects to the home's HVAC ducts and uses the outgoing air to pre-condition the incoming air from outside, bringing it closer to the indoor temperature and humidity before it enters the HVAC system, thereby lowering the energy necessary to run the ERV.
