A previous customer who was satisfied with a mitigation system we had installed and inspected in their Arnoldsville home reached out to Georgia Radon Defense with additional concerns about the quality of their well water. They wanted to know whether radon could be present in their water supply. When radon is present in well water, it can pose a health hazard due to breathing in the water vapor when cooking, showering, or doing household chores.
First, Georgia Radon Defense visited the home to collect water samples. We hand delivered the samples to the University of Georgia's Agricultural and Environmental Services Laboratories for testing. Results showed moderately elevated radon levels, and the homeowner asked for options to mitigate.
There are two main ways to address radon in water: aeration and filtration. Aeration systems use air bubbles to capture and release radon gas dissolved in water, and are the most effective solution. Charcoal filter systems can also reduce radon levels in water, and are less expensive to install.
The homeowner elected to install a charcoal filtration system for the radon, as well as a UV filtration system that cleanses the water of viruses, bacteria, and cysts without adding chemicals. Our technicians completed the installation of both systems in one day, then returned after a required 24 hour waiting period to activate the systems for the customer.
The attached photos show where we installed the whole house charcoal filter next to the existing radon mitigation system in the homeowner's utility room.
Now the homeowner gets to enjoy peace of mind, knowing that they've made the air and water inside their home safer for their family!
